My aunt and my grandmother came down from the north for my grandmother's birthday which was yesterday. My grandmother wanted to go and see the Walton's museum which is in Schuyler, Virginia which is in an absolutely beautiful part of the state. (No one has come in with housing developments yet). Yes, I did get a little lost but met a very nice person at the local firehouse who gave great directions and wished my grandmother a happy birthday.
I have not been to the museum in years (11 to be exact) and haven't seen reruns of the show in awhile. Would I recommend it? If you have fond memories of the show, yes. The original house is across the street and it's not in as rural of an area that you would think which is kind of a let down as you want the house to be on a real mountain.
After our visit we headed back to the big city and passed the truck that had been on fire in the opposite lane as we were headed south. Flames were actually shooting out of the trailer (the cab had been removed), firemen fighting it, road closed on that side due to fire and traffic back-up. Nothing in today's paper about it. Not surprising but frustrating as one gets the feeling here that there is a lot of news that passes us by.
We had a light lunch on the way back and then went west of the big city to get peaches. They are as hard bullets now so will have to wait until they are soft and hopefully use them before a cloud of fruitflies descends on us.
Took my grandmother back to the motel so that she could get a nap in and my aunt and I went shopping. Ran into some adorable former students.
Picked my grandmother back up and brought them back to the house for dinner which in my own special way did not set the oven right for the lasagna and it was frozen in the center when I went to serve it. :) Cooked it longer in the microwave.
Dinner was hysterical as the women set on one end of the table and guys on the other. My aunt and I got laughing so hard over silly things and the looks of wonderment on S1 and S2 and husband's faces were priceless. Now they know that my actions are genetic !!!
We had a great ice cream cake from Ben and Jerry's that the wonderful husband picked out.
Highly recommended and I'm not a big ice cream eater.
