Guns

Years ago when S1 was in elementery school he was invited to spend an evening at a friends house. A month later he casually mentioned that the friend and he had played with a gun which according to him was broken. I know that this is on the news a lot but I was in shock. I called the parents and when I told them that the boys had played with the gun they mentioned that they knew about it but that the gun was broken and not loaded. I didn't care. What kind of fool lets their child play with a real gun anyway? (yes I did let mine play with cap guns - minus the caps) but this was a real gun and even though we had talked about real guns with our children our son did end up playing with one at a friends house. Needless to say the relationship with this family ended.
I did let my son know that I was proud of him for telling me and yes, we did have another talk with both of our boys. Talk to your kids. . . again even if you have already done so.

PS I'm not interested in hearing about not playing with toy guns. Just a warning to talk to your kids because some things are worth saying more than once or twice.

That is one scary story. Thank god your son told you what happened. I wasn't even allowed into the house of a family that had a gun (locked up or not).

As for toy guns...well I have one son and I took the route early on that there would be no guns, swords, bows/arrows, laser guns etc EVER in my home.

And now I walk through my house and trip on my 7 year old son's multiple plastic play guns, swords, bow/arrows, laser guns, shields etc.

Motherhood humbles you...real fast.
