The Hardest Thing . . . .

about being a teacher is talking to a parent about negative behavior. I dread quietly saying to a parent as they are picking up a child "Could you hang around for a bit? I need to talk to you for a moment." Nothing good to look forward to and the parent knows it no matter the pleasant smile that I have plastered to my face.

I try to convey to each parent that their child is special and that though we may have a temporary problem with hitting, biting, spitting etc that their child does a lot of good things also. And I list them. Parents don't always hear that though. A good day for me is when they do. Today was a good day.
