Ever since reading Sylvia's Farm by Sylvia Jorrin, I have had the old urge to do something agriculture/farming and actually use my college degree. More than plant some plants and watch the deer eat them :-)
Hence taking the honey bee classes. Yesterday after work I drove down to the city where my dad's mother lived (about an hour away now on the new expressway/bypass) to pick up my honey bee hive.
Everything is in boxes and has to be put together and I have about 7 days to do that and paint them properly so that the supers(boxes) have a week to get rid of paint fumes before THE BEES COME.
The gentleman that I bought the hive from has assured me that everything will fit together fine but what I really want is assurance that the bees will like it and stay. No assurances however - just like real farming - I am at the mercy of something larger than myself.

Oh, I loved reading Sylvia's Farm! Thanks for reminding me that I'd like to read it again. :) Loved the huge split rock above, too--thanks for sharing! Blessings, Debra
