It was a little boy's

dream today as I left work. Fire trucks, along with a few ambulances and some police lined our busy street to put out a fire at a business across from us. Luckily it was a small one and as far as I know, no injuries.

Insincerity is

such a waste of time to listen to. I would rather have been petting cats!

Mrs. L was the owner of the 1st

B & B that we stayed at (in Bath). She set the standards high for the rest of our trip with a beautiful room, more than comfy bed, good breakfast and was the perfect hostess.

She had moved to England years before from Germany. Her accent - a mixture of the German and English. She looked like other British women her age (early 70's?) with the typical style of skirt and the same shoes. But I don't know how many of them can grab heavy luggage and haul it up stairs. When we objected the response was "years of experience".

We had rented a car and Mrs. L had saved her parking space for us (as she does not drive). On the morning that the rental company was supposed to pick up husband they did not show. Mrs. L dialed the number for husband and he was assured that the driver was on his way. But after awhile he still did not show. So Mrs. L herself called. And spoke to the rental company in only the way that a woman of a certain age can. Husband was picked up shortly and given an upgrade in car. Which was nice but it meant that we almost did not fit in her narrow driveway. We were glad that she did not speak to them more strongly!

A visit with a fellow blogger

I have been reading Nostalgia at the Stonehouse for quite some time and LOVE what Niki makes. She is extremely talented and has opened her own shop in Shepton Mallet which was a short excursion from Bath. I also bought some buttons from her and a tablecloth. But it is the doll that won my heart. She is so perfectly made and stuffed. Antique fabric dress. Absolutely beautiful.

Niki is as nice in person as she comes across in her blog. A lovely rainy day visit.

My Thoughts - being back from England for less than 24 hours

I feel sorry for the people trying to get flights out of Europe now. With the ash from the volcano in Iceland now covering so much area many airports over there are closed and may be for days. Living in Heathrow (for days) with just the clothes on ones back is not a pleasant thought no matter how nice the British people are.

Whenever I'm in Europe and the sun is shining I'm amazed at how blue the sky is.

My kitchen and dining room are a mess. Must get everything from the trip put away by tomorrow night so as to enjoy the weekend.

European news is so civilized. No ones screams or is loud - even on morning news. Americans are loud.

What, no photos yet? Please!!! We landed about 10:30 last night. Was in bed by midnight. Spent most of the night listening to Heinz purr and chirp as he was next to me on the bed. I did laundry this morning. Went to work. Got groceries and then took a 3 hour nap. I will get them up though and write about our vacation as I process what I've seen and done.

It is good to take a vacation and even better to come home.
