Friday's Show and Tell/ Horseshoe
Kelli, over at There is no place like home hosts Friday's Show and Tell.
My show and tell is in the above photo.
Years ago we moved from a 1920's house in Florida to a 1970's house in Virginia with no character and seemingly no history. As time went on we discovered that the land that we mowed and that our children played on was part of the estate of the explorer M*riwether Lewis.
Digging up an area for a garden I discovered the above part of a horseshoe. No way of knowing how old it is but it is a link to some sort of past on our lot. A past that existed before our house was built and when someone rode horses through a space that was more wide open than it is today.

Like you I have ahome with history. It is neat to find old stuff that was here before we were around
Oh my goodness, I'm so glad I read the rest of your post after looking at the photo. My first thought....a really old banana!!!???
Still, that kind of history is priceless! We live in a newer home...and with the city restrictions we have these days, pretty sure we won't be finding any treasures like this! Sad...but true.
What a great find.
Diane
History in your own yard. That's cool indeed. I'm with Diane, I had to read really fast to get to the punchline...
What a neat find! A true part of history.
That had to be exciting to find out your land had once been owned by one of the Lewis & Clark famous explorers.
How neat!! Just imagine the possibilities of where that came from!! Oh to have it tell it's own tale would be SO exciting!

Oh wow, how fascinating to find out who lived on that land before your house was built! Goodness knows what's all buried...I'd be out there with a metal detector! lol xo
cool! I love the pictures of your home and its surroundings. how are the bees going?
Ok Diane's thought was nicer than mine I thought what in the world it's a . . . but when I read your post I was enthralled. I love history. Thank you for sharing.
That is so neat!! I'll bet you were so excited when you dug it up, it's a true treasure!
