The Imaginary Garden by Andrew Larsen

In my quest to find great books to read to my class I have been haunting the children's section at the library and came up with this gem. It is about a gentleman and his granddaughter and how they use their imagination to make a new garden after having to give up the old one.

A wonderful story with beautiful illustrations that can inspire some creativity at home or in the school setting. And the perfect gift for a gardener who has a special child in his/her life.

The inspiration for my diningroom colors

partially came from this photo from the book, A house in the South- old-fashioned graciousness for new-fashioned times by Frances Shultz and Paula S. Wallace.

It is a beautiful book and well worth trying to get your local library to get a copy.

The new paint job in diningroom

makes me so incredibly happy. The walls are an orange/red with goldenrod color trim and ceiling. All done in a satin paint. It takes what was a dark room (painted a dark burgundy with white trim) and makes it positively glow.

S1's

1/2 of the livingroom

new apartment is in a prettier location than the last one. It is also HUGE. The apartment is actually 2 apartments that have had a wall removed between the livingrooms. So there are 2 kitchens, 2 dining rooms, 2 livingrooms and 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and 2 full baths. New paint, clean carpet. Very impressed.

I've been

trying to broaden my self knowledge wise. It took forever but yesterday I opened up a youtube account and posted my first video. The same one that is on the previous post but I wanted to see if I could figure out youtube and facebook. It worked but took 2 postings and quite a bit of time.

Other than that it was breakfast out yesterday with a friend. And starting to get the house ready for S2's girlfriend who is coming Sunday. It will be close as S1 and I will be putting things together Sunday morning for a trip to Blacksburg to move him into his new apartment. My livingroom will look somewhat different come Sunday night.
That will be a good thing.

On Sunday

husband and I attended my nephew's baptism. We got up early and went out to the most fantastic donut place. Took our donuts and coffee over to Elmira College, ate and read. It was a beautiful day. Just warm enough with a nice breeze. This photo of husband is taken in front of the Mark Twain study that was moved from his nearby home.

I sit at

the computer catching up on my blog reading. From somewhere a gun goes off. It is groundhog shooting season. At least that is what I think is going on - from past experience. It shatters the morning, disturbs the dogs, which disturbs the cats. Makes me count everyone.

We spent the weekend in NY. My nephew was baptized yesterday morning. I got in a serious amount of baby holding time. My brother and his wife are fixing up their very old house. It has a beautiful stain glass window in the stairwell, wonderful front porch and a shaded back yard that was perfect for visiting under yesterday before we left.

My grandmother - who lives near my brother- lives with my aunt. She (grandmother) fell Saturday night. We spent time at the ER - brother, aunt, husband and I with her. Technician sent her home as no break showed on xrays.

We went over to lunch at my aunt's yesterday. The hospital called right before we sat down to eat. There was a break after all and she needed to stop walking - yes she was able to walk - and she had to come back to the hospital.

Dad started dialysis on Friday.

The minister meant to say in yesterday's sermon that the man taking up the collection was looking somber. Instead he said - Your looking sober.!! Husband and I laughed later over that one.

Bella answering that question that all dogs ask

What is on the table that smells so good?

Actually there was nothing good up there and she hasn't done this since I left for Germany. Just so you know that it is safe to eat at our house - in case you were wondering.

New Blog for Germany Trip

To have some sort of order in my blogging life I'm putting - slowly- the photos up from my Germany trip on a separate blog. GermanyAustria 2009. I plan on putting most of this trip online - unlike last year and the new blog will make that easier.

I am Back

Came home on Friday. Wanted to be back for the 4th but was too tired for fireworks that evening. And then spent most of yesterday in bed sick.

But. . .

I had a wonderful time. Yes, I was by myself. Husband could not get time off. S2 went to Kansas. S1 is in and out so often that it makes my head spin. He is in West Virginia looking at stars until tomorrow night. Then on Friday he leaves for a time in Puerto Rico to look at the stars from there - questioning (ok my ignorant mind) minds want to know if the stars look that much different there than here. I will have to ask. I can imagine the eye roll!!

I'm having trouble adding photos so will add asap.
