Spring and Pillowcases
Early this morning husband and I shoveled our street from our driveway to the main road so that he could get to work. The wind is blowing, it is cold and my toes are still trying to thaw out.
But at the sewing machine it has been spring. The main fabric came from a pair of curtains found at a local thrift store. The gingham and ric rac came from my stash. The pillowcase makes me think of clothes waving in the breeze on a clothesline and the smell of them when they are brought inside. Full of fresh air and sunshine.

A thrifting tale
I walked into the rummage store run by our local spca after enjoying a cup of coffee and a scone next door at the coffee house with the lovely old chairs to relax in.
The store can be kind of expensive for 2nd hand goods. Their reasoning is that they are a source of funding for the animals. I just dig a little further into the items hoping for a great bargain.
The chair wasn't exactly a bargain, but it wasn't expensive either. I had been wanting a great piece of wicker for a sitting area in the master bedroom but I wasn't sure about this piece. Until I sat in it and realized that even without a cushion it was highly comfortable. But was the price worth it?
I had to make a decision right then and there. Another woman had spied the chair and was standing less than a yard from me waiting to pounce on it if I let the chair go.
I took the chair up to the register. The cashier looked at her friend who was next to her and said, "Someone is buying your chair!" Yes, another woman had seen the chair but had gone home to think it over.
The chair is mine. Husband loves it. Heinz loves it. Someday I envision it a dark green. But I may change my mind.

Today's Thrifting
The weather outside is absolutely beautiful - a perfect fall day. Not too chilly, not too warm and perfect for a thrifting adventure.
The first stop was at a church that I had never seen before. An Episcopal one out in the country. The graveyard in front and the priest's house that looked like it had been transported from Nantucket.
The second stop was for a sale that an older woman holds each year in her barn. I love it. The smells in the barn are wonderful and today I got to see the previous owner who had her wedding rehearsal dinner in the barn many years ago. Now today she was there with her daughter and granddaughter. Very sweet.
The third stop was followed by a sighting of wild turkeys, a male with a group of hens. No photo because I forgot all about my camera in the excitement of seeing them.
Lots of bounty for 3 stops. A quilt for $20 from the barn along with some fabric that will make a wonderful tablecloth were my prize finds. The pink earrings are clip ons and I will make pins out of those. They came from the church along with the pillow. The pillow was great for 50 cents. I just need to cover it. A cheap pillow form. The red and gold table cloths came from the third stop and may look good in the diningroom. And the pretty pink plate that also came from the barn. Another 50 cent piece because of a nick in it.
