Cookies and Curtains

S2 has requested a care package. So one of the items going is a bag of his favorite cookies. These cookies have a wonderful chewy texture and are great with a glass of milk.
Sugar and Spice Cookies

Mix Together:

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses (I use the mild flavor)

Add to mixture:

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cloves
3/4 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix together, form into balls about an inch in diameter. Roll them in sugar and place 2" apart on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. They will harden some as they cool.

This is a photo of a corner of my kitchen. Sunday I took some old fabric that we had used as a table cloth and made a curtain for the front of my cookbook book case. It is a very light fabric and I have it hanging by wire that I strung across the shelf and have attached the wire with bent nails. Makes the area look more finished off.

I'm going to save the recipe, and go buy some molasses. They look terrific!

My mother and grandmother make these cookies also. Have been eating and enjoying them for years!
